PROFILE: Samantha Romero, conference interpreter, translator
Samantha Romero was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, to Peruvian parents. She was brought up in the USA and Peru and is bilingual in English and Spanish. Samantha has lived in Brazil since 1985, and has a degree in tourism from Universidade Hélio Alonso, in Rio de Janeiro. She started her career as an English and Spanish language teacher for Petrobras, Citibank, Banco Boa Vista, Souza Cruz, Banco Multiplic, Mc Donalds and Roche. She also helped organize a number of international events and served as the interpreter for artists such as Guns'n Roses, Alice Cooper and Faith no More, among many others.
In 1996, Samantha completed the prestigious Alumni (São Paulo) Translator’s and Interpreter’s course and immediately started to work in the interpreter’s booth. Samantha is very skilled at simultaneous translation of portuguese, spanish and english. She has completed over 1200 assignments in the interpreter’s booth and is a member of APIC – the Professional Association of Conference Interpreters.
Samantha handles assignments in technology, manufacturing, government, services, pharmaceuticals and education. Her clients include Pepsico, Honda, Nortel, BMC, WMO – the World Meteorology Organization, Carbono Lorena, Sabesp, Christian Hanssen, Oracle, Fenasoft, Rotary International, PUC - Pontifícia Univeraidade Católica, KPMG, UNICAMP, Latin Events (Latin Channels), Instituto de Tecnologia de Alimentos (the Brazilian Food Technology Institute), Petrobras, Parlatin, and many others.
In 2004, Samantha established SRE to offer simultaneous translation services to clients who are truly searching for premium services. In addition to managing SRE, since 2000 Samantha has been a partner in one of Brazil’s best interpretation companies - ABP Intérpretes de Conferências.
